Anna's will is left to a few people in her life. When you analyize the document you will see that see left her sister only a dollar. This was an old pratice in creating wills. If you left someone in your will with at least one dollar they couldn't contest the will to be rewarded higher.
Caroline W. Smith is Anna's sister. Anna and her sister were not fond of eachother so Anna left her only one dollar in her will so that Caroline couldn't contest to her will and be awarded more.
Caroline still tried to contest the will and eventually decided to give up.
The biggest mystery in Anna's story was who was this diary left for? When reading the diary one can see that it address' someone named "Joe." Who is this Joe? Is it a love interest? A friend? Male or Female? Found in the Fredonia State Archives and Special Collections are researchers notes. In those notes one of the researchers working on on the Anna project discovered the Geraldine Briggs; a close friend of Anna's, was called "Joe." Geraldine and her husband take Anna into their home to care for her until she passed away in 1946.
